A Good Outfit For: A Night With the Girls ♥

Happy Monday everyone! How did the week-end treat you? Mine was good, although I have to admit: this is my least favorite time of the year. At this point every year I get incredibly frustrated with Winter, the cold, the snow, the white and brown decor, the frozen feet. It's kind of a general mood where I live: after 4 months straight of below zero weather, we don't want Spring, we need it. Since there isn't much I can do about the weather, I just keep on smiling and try extra hard to keep myself inspired. I have to say lately my greatest source of inspiration has been my girlfriends, who are all so different but so smart and beautiful in a way that truly uplifts me! I feel so blessed and lucky to be making new friends as well these days and was more than ecstatic to spent some time with my girls this week-end to celebrate a special birthday. It was SO much fun!!

Ramiro is in San Francisco this week and I decided that while he was gone I was going on strike. While I can't do anything about the weather outside, I can sure create a fake environment inside. So this week, as a sign of protests against Winter, I am not going to leave the house at all! I'm going to boost up the heat, wear Summer clothes, paint my toe nails, light papaya smelling candles and have my girls over for some pina colodas. That should kick my Winter blues right in the butt!

Discovery Sunday: Karla Spetic ★

This week I discovered Croatian (now Australia bound) designer Karla Spetic and completely fell in love with her pure and bright universe. I am unbelievably inspired by her AW2012 collection that makes pop art wearable with these amazing Roy Lichtenstein comic book prints garments. I'm crazy for the cuts, the colours and the transparency and am really enticed to translate it to my own wardrobe. I'm also completely loving the look book's hair and make-up, swoon galore!

A Good Look For: Everyday Life ♥

There seems to be a myth around the bloggosphere that bloggers have a perfect life or would like to make you believe that they do. I don't really adhere to this way of seing things because I think blogging is all about sharing inspiration and to do so, bloggers tend to focus on the positive and blog empowering posts instead of complaining about having a bad day (which I personally can't stand as a reader). Nonetheless, I'll be the first to admit that not all days or perfect or glamorous. Some days like today are all about work and running errands. And the most special thing about it will be getting to hug Ramiro at the end of it. And that's all good with me! Not perfect, yet happy. And truth is: style bloggers get dressed everyday, even on the normal ones. Even when it's a leap year.

Even though I am screaming because it's still SO cold up here, let's pretend I'm actually signing the gospel of everyday happiness ok?

A Good Look For: Thrift Shopping ★

There are many reasons why this look is a good look for thrift shopping... It's close to the body and makes it perfect to try on clothes on top of it if there are no fitting rooms / there are only two and there's a huge line. The neutral tights are great because they won't impair your jugement with colourful dresses and skirts. The fabric bag is big enough for all your purchases. There is no make-up involved so I don't have to worry about leaving my mark when trying on tops (I always try on tons and tons of sweaters!). And I'm wearing flat boots, because shopping means being on your feet the whole time!

I love my Kodak bag because one day it will a memorabilia and we'll be reminiscing about the time when movies were shot on film and Kodak was one of the biggest brands in the world... I feel really blessed I got to produce a project on film before it becomes extinct. Change can be good, but always makes me so nostalgic. Cue in the filmmaking violins...

A Good Look For: An Afternoon Date ★

This week-end, Jean stopped by my place and whisked me away for a lovely romantic afternoon date. We talked (in French) all afternoon and her told me just how much he loved the post I had done for him this Summer as I confessed how I fell hopelessly in love with him when he played Octave Parango in 99 Francs. I reassured him that for sure he was going to win the Oscar (which he did of course), he complimented me on my outfit and told me he'd love to introduce me to Harvey Weinstein. Then it was time to drive him to the airport, where we kissed passionately before he left for Hollywood. It was SO lovely! That's when Ramiro woke me up... oh how I love afternoon naps!

And so my real life leading man took me on an actual afternoon date where strangely there was a lot of talk of the Oscars and of Harvey Weinstein as well as a great amount of outfit compliments. Seems like the distance between fantasy and reality can be made smaller when you work hard at accomplishing your movie making dreams...

"And the Oscar goes to... Ramiro Bélanger !!!"

Discovery Sunday: To Be Adored ♥

A few months ago I discovered To Be Adored and fell hopelessly in love with the girly and arial designs. It's talented designer, Binbin McNevin, is from London and has worked with the likes of Alexander McQueen! I had been anticipating the SS12 line and was completely enticed by the look book, which I absolutely wanted to share. I adore the photography by Harley Weir because it uses the light in such a bold way. In a world where everybody seems to be taking their photos in the shade, this look book is such a breath of fresh air and a true inspiration. Creates the most beautiful universe around the dreamy Summer time garments...

A Good Look For: A Walk Around the City ★

Earlier this week, on a quest for inspiration and with a strong need to do something outside (#needsummer), my friend Sophie and I walked around the Old Port of your little city. Taking long walks is definitely my favorite urban sport (I'm quite the sporty one, huh?) and It was just SO lovely outside. I kept laughing and saying "I'm so happy it's Spring!", to which Sophie would just say "It's not" and point at the snow. Turns out she was right, we are getting a huge snow storm today... I have to say: most times my fantasies are better than reality... It figures!

I'm not sure how to tell you this but... these jeans are actually overalls. You read that right. And I absolutely LOVE them! I'm thinking I need a pair of the short version for Summer and am making it my thrifting priority (along with a purse with fringes!!). A Good Look For: A Creative Meeting ★

I think February might be the less inspiring month ever so I have been focusing all my attention on work and what's next for our movie. Between organizing the post production of Clyde Nelson, planning a networking trip to the Cannes Film Festival and developing a new feature film project with an amazing writer from Nova Scotia, my days are often a sequence of Skype meetings. I think it's so much more organic for a creative meeting to be able to see the other person, gives you a much better feel or their energy, which is so important to me. Yay for the internet making us closer!

I can never get over how amazing vintage shopping is when it comes to noble fabrics. This skirt was one of my first vintage finds ever and cost me only 6$. I was trying to find a similar style online for the "shop this outfit" part of the post and couldn't find much under 500$... Sheesh!! I swear, creative consumerism is the best thing ever, right after oversized polka dots!

Life Lately // The Flea Market ♥

As you may know if you follow me on Twitter, last week-end I was taking part in a special vintage and hand made flea market organized by fabulous Québec city designer Coeur de Loup. It was my first time selling vintage elsewhere than online so I was really shy and nervous at first, but I'm SO glad I decide to participate! My motto these days is to get out of my comfort zone and this certainly did the trick. I had attended the event last year as a customer and had such a delightful time, it was nice to be on the other side of things and oh so lovely to interact with the customers as well. I got to meet readers of the blog too which is always amazing! My friends from Sauvages were there as well and are behind some of the pictures seen in this post (thanks Eli!). Have you ever done something like that where you had to push yourself to go for it but then was so happy you did? So gratifying!

My little pastel vintage booth was more popular than I expected so right now I am putting together a new inventory before re-launching the online boutique... Can't hardly wait!!

A Good Look For: A Birthday Party ★

When I think Birthday party, I instantly think: cocktail dress. But these days I am trying to fight my first impulses to move away from ready made ideas and push things a little further to get my inspiration flowing. That's why I resisted reaching for my favorite dress when getting ready for Saturday's party and decided to go for a colourful casual look instead. I'll tell you: a gold sweater does wonder to bring the festive feel out of any outfit! I'm in love with mine so much, I'm thinking you all need one similar in your closet asap. This baby sparkles even in the dark and has a magical mermaid-like feel to it, which makes it the greatest sweater of all times in my book!

I felt like such a wise Winter style blogger when I had the idea of wearing tights under pants, an idea that would revolutionize the way we look at layering, resonate in cold countries around the world and keep our bums warm I thought! But then I realized it creates a ton of bunching at the knee, got a grip and took the tights off. My ideas of grandeur are always best laid out in my head...

Hope this Monday isn't too brutal everyone, I know I sure could have used and extra week-end day!

Life Lately // Surprise ★

This week-end, a special party took place for my friend Yannick's 30th birthday. He is a really special person in my life and it was my honour to be able to help decorate and coordinate, along with my girls Sophie and Anne, the surprise party his girlfriend Sabrina had organized. Yannick is such a great friend, he actually inspires me to be a better friend. He's an amazing listener, gives great advice, cooks like no other and is always SO much fun to be around! Plus he's a dandy. I feel lucky to be able to call him my friend and was so happy to celebrate this milestone with him!

It was a night of fabulous company, yummy food, silly decos, pretend zombies and of course sparklers, which totally matched my party outfit, that I'll be sharing tomorrow on the blog (one of my favorites lately!).

And just like that another week-end ends way too early...

Hello everybody! Aren't we all so glad it's Friday? This week has been bananas! Yesterday Ramiro and I had a little impromptu pizza lunch date and I threw on this outfit super fast without giving it much thought and ended up loving it! It's made of some of my favorite vintage pieces, like this Serge & Réal top that's casual and chic, cowboy rubber boots that are perfect for snowy days and my fox fur stole that keeps me warm! If you had told me a few years ago I would become so into vintage, I never would have believed you! Yet now I can't imagine my wardrobe any other way. I love mixing vintage and current trends too much! Gets my creative juices flowing.

Speaking of vintage, this week-end I'm taking part in Les Puces de Coeur de Loup, a rad flea market organized by Québec city designer Coeur de Loup with all things vintage and hand made. I'm so excited! I'll be selling vintage pieces from my Pretty Colourful Spring Summer collection as well as a few Winter items on rebate, so be sure to pass by if you are in the neighborhood! Speaking of Pretty Colourful, I had to close the Etsy part of it during the movie shoot but I'll be re-opening very soon, I'll keep you posted!

Remix // Favorite Denim Skirt ★

Instead of always buying new clothes, I like to remix basic pieces in my wardrobe. It's good for your wallet and your creativity! This skirt is my favorite and I could remix it endlessly! It gives such a great silhouette and it's short yet utilitarian. It's perfect from day to nigh too, I've worn it for work as and movie festival parties alike. Though it's not a classic cut, it has become a staple in my closet. As I'm getting ready for a mini Spring shopping spree and planning wisely the purchases I'll have to make, I'm glad to know I already have a fun circle skirt in my closet to work with. As far as shopping on a humble budget goes, I think it's best to be organized!

I simply adore lighter colours for Winter, it just looks SO pretty against the Canadian snow doesn't it! I'm pretty excited that pastels are going to be so big for Spring (have you noticed how they are everywhere?) and that coloured pants are still an ongoing trend, because I just love them (and own a few of them)! I've been eyeing these pink beauties for a while and I would also love to own a lilac pair. Coloured pants are a new basic I think, everyone should have them in their closet. They go with absolutely everything! Plus they are fab from day to night, for work and play. There is a nice variety of colours for reasonable prices at Forever 21, you should check it out if this is a style you'd like to try!

How was your week-end my friends? It was simply freezing here so I spent most of mine inside, cuddling, working and drinking too much tea. I haven't made any plans for Valentine's Day yet, I think I better get to it! Any suggestions?

Montreal Fashion Week ★

This week I was in Montréal for a short trip and stopped by the 22nd edition of Montreal Fashion Week. I got to watch a few shows, see some friends and meet new ones! It was everything you woud expect Fashion Week to be: champagne, cool outfits and lots of people taking pictures of each other!

Fashion Week was the perfect occasion to meet one of my favorite blogger, Izzy, who was the highlight of my night! She is such a beautiful person inside and out and her outfit was just killer (as always!). I feel so blessed for blogging bringing us together and finally meeting in real life ♥

This fashion season was also my first time getting invites to New York Fashion Week, which is quite exciting. I hope to be able to jump by next September if our movie festival schedule allows it and meet some of the people that inspire and collaborate to the blossoming of my little blog!

But for now let's enjoy the present moment and make the most of the week-end shall we!

My Look // Magic ★

Ok, I have to admit, when I first thrifted this sweater (...yesterday) I almost immediately got buyer's remorse. I had been wanting to rock the cocoon top / skinny bottom look, but would my boobalicious self be able to pull it off? The What Not To Wear voice in my head was telling me: no.

But then I realized: nothing magical ever happens if you don't try things outside of your comfort zone, right? So here I am today, feeling fierce and kind of cool in this outfit that is as comfy as my pjs (take that imaginary Stacy and Clinton!). Plus it turns out this sweater is magical, kept me warm even without a coat on (yay angora!), which means I might not take it off until April, if that's ok with you.

5 Tips To Make Your Dreams Come True ♥

When I was shooting my latest movie project last month, I got a lot of questions from readers on how I did to accomplish my dream of making an independent feature film. I'll be sharing my personal story of how we made it happen soon, but for now I wanted to share a few tips on the logistics it takes to make your dreams come true. Accomplishing your greatest goals takes a lot of motivation and dedication but also a fair share of organization. Here is what's important to do:

♥ Define the dream. You need to have a really specific dream and stick to it. If your dream is "I want to be my own boss", that's a great start, but you need to know what will be your main occupation. Do you want to be a vintage shop owner, a handmade jewelry maker, a freelance photographer? Define the dream. If you have many aspirations, pick the one you are most passionate about and see yourself doing fro your whole life. One dream at the time works much better for maximal results.

♥ Locate the dream and make a road map. Now you have defined the dream, view it as a beautiful mountain you can see in the horizon and envision the road you need to take get to it. For us, the mountain was making a first feature film. It meant first writing scripts to improve our skills, making a few short films to get our name out, travelling to festivals to meet important contacts. That was the road to the mountain. We were prepared for the challenges and had the right gear with us. You wouldn't climb Mount Kilimanjaro in heels right? Same goes for your dream mountain.

♥ Set short, middle and long term goals to see your dream grow. Having goals helps keep you motivated and makes you feel rewarded, which is SO important. Accomplishing a dream takes time. The short terms goals help you feel like things are moving along while the long term goals help you stay focus on the big picture. Not everybody's success is overnight and that's ok. Life is not a race. And a lot of fun comes from the process, not just the end product, so enjoy every moment, challenge and goal!

♥ Surround yourself with the right people. Chances are, you will need some help to accomplish your dreams. Define your specific needs and start networking! For us, although we were going to do a lot by ourselves, we needed great actors and a solid sound department so we looked around us and started contacting people, meeting them for drink, pitching them our dream. This is crucial at the first stages of your dream, these people will be very valuable to you and they might even become your friends, support your dream and introduce you to their circle. Contact people you admire and ask them for advice and look at the talents of people around you and see how it could help your dream grow.

♥ Use projection and affirmations to generate the right energy. I personally strongly believe in projecting. I have an affirmation by my computer that says "My dreams will come true" and another one by my bed that simply says "YES". I also have a landscape of the Hollywood Hills as my screensaver. You have to see and feel your success before it even comes. Make a inspiration board or create a visual timeline for your dream and start projecting. And never let other people's negative comments blurry your vision, you need to be strong and stay true to what's in your heart! Have a visual reminder of your dream in your home or office and take time to look at it everyday and imagine how it will be once you've reached your long term goal.

Dreaming makes our eyes sparkle and our heart beat fast, but some more down to heart things like a good plan and strong logistics can help tremendously in reaching for the stars and making your wildest dreams come true! Anything is possible if you are willing to work hard, be patient and live from the heart fo you!

I have been shopping the man's section like crazy lately, looking for new pieces to ad a boyish vibe to my wardrobe. But I've had to face the fact that: no other man's pants fit me as well as my husband pants. We are just star crossed like that: I can make movies with him, cuddle him and wear his clothes. My Look // Real Snow, Faux Leather ★

Even though Spring is nowhere in sight yet here in Québec, I have been dreaming of the warmer days and making a list of must haves items that will become wardrobe staples. On the very top of my list was finding a little black leather jacket that I could wear with everything. I shopped the web for hours to find the perfect one (and tried to thrift one, with no luck). My ultimate choice was this one from Asos (holy gorgeousness!), but since they didn't have my size I had to keep on looking. I adored this one from Threadsence too and found a very nice selection at Modcloth as well (this one is my favorite) but ended up getting this one from H&M. I am just crazy for the little quilted detail, swoon!

Of course I wore a big wool coat on top and wool socks in my boots (but there was no way I was taking off the faux fur snood!). It was sunny all week-end, which is a threat for February, and about -12 degrees. Everywhere I went people kept saying "It's SO nice out today", because that's better than our usual weather. Such craziness! I had to dance around so I wouldn't freeze a limb while taking these, oh Canada!

This week promises to be busy but I'm excited! I'll be heading to Montreal tomorrow for business meetings and Montreal Fashion Week, should be fun! I think this one will be really inspiring and gratifying for all of us... Happy Monday my friends!

Her Look // The Daily Fashionista ★

Hi Virginie Cinema readers!!! My name is Emily and I write the blog The Daily Fashionista. My blog is a place where I share my love of thrifting and vintage, my married life, and of course my dogs always pop into the picture. I also love style and try to show my readers how I incorporate vintage with modern clothes for everyday looks. Sometimes I look ultra 70s and other days I'm steering my style towards Mad Man era. And some days I'm just sporting a fun look that was inspired by some of my other favorite bloggers.

I thought I'd share some tips with you on how I mix my vintage pieces with my modern pieces!!

1. If the main attraction in your outfit is a vintage dress or blouse or even pants, use modern and trendy accessories to update the look!! And opposite if your donning a more trendy piece of clothing. For example, I'm wearing a vintage felt hat I picked up a local vintage store to give my more modern look a pop of something different.

2. Always be on the lookout for timeless pieces while thrifting or vintage shopping. Trench coats never ever go out of style and they come in so many materials!! Typically poplin or leather, or even wool like my coat.

3. Vintage Boots are a great closet staple if your looking to start delving into the land of vintage shopping. I bought these from Ebay nearly four years ago and they have served me well all four winters. They just need to be resoled every few years.

One of my lovely reader, Vanessa, sent me this beautiful vintage trincket that she made. Isn't it the sweetest? It totally won over my romantic heart and inspired me a really soft and feminine look, which was perfect for a day of working from home. It's so much nicer inside than outside these days, with our lovely daily -15 temperature, a girl has to stay inside and daydream of warmer days. Especially if she wants to do a romantic, nude look (which would not look that great with my parka!).

Ever since the movie finished shooting (only a week ago!), I have been feeling like a different person, like a big phase of my life is now starting. I think this will start reflecting in my style a lot. I've been going through a major girly / japanese anime character phase for the past few years and the energy I feel from having made this movie, which is a very masculine one, is inspiring to dress in a more Annie Hall meets The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo way. I always use clothes in a way to help me achieve my goals and accomplish my dreams, so I can't wait to see how this translates in my style and my life!

5 Beauty Tips for Colder Weather ★

Oh my friends I tell you, it is cold where I live! With 4 months of weather below zero and daily snow storms, I've learned a thing or two about Winter beauty. Over the past years, I've come up with a few tips to keep my beauty routine sanity even in the worst of weather:

♥ Water proof make up. Cold weather is wet and humid (hugh!). If it's not snowing, it's freeze raining or windy like crazy. Water proof make up will keep you looking nice and fresh all day. And it will avoid you getting to work with your make up running down your cheeks (I've been there one too many times!).

♥ Layers. Not just with tops, but also with socks, tights, scarves, mittens... Double it up! I wear two pairs of socks at all times from December to March. Keeping your feet and head warm and dry helps tremendously with keeping your whole body temperature steady (and your moral up!). With layering always remember: you need to have space for a layer of air between two layers of clothes to keep the warmth, so don't got too adjusted or clingy on the layering: if you cut the air circulation you will freeze.

♥ Organic materials. Cotton and wool will keep you warm, polyester and man made fabrics will let you freeze! Organic fabrics create heat and preserve it. Duvets coats, wool sweaters and socks, knit tights and cotton dresses are great for Winter. Fur is amazing too for scarves, hats and vests! I feel comfortable wearing real fur as long as it's second hand or recycled, but otherwise fake fur isn't too bad at keeping you warm neither.

♥ Moisturize! Your face and lips are exposed to a lot of cold and need moisture. Use a vitamine E body lotion and a deep nourishing face cream ( I have been using Vichy Aqualia for years). Your hands and feet are more likely to get dry and itchy in the Winter too, so use a really rich cream and moisturize everyday before going to bed or when getting out of the shower (I use St. Ives). I can't lie, I use Vaseline on my lips and under my eyes at night in the colder months to protect my skin too, supposedly helps with avoiding wrinkles too!

♥ Colourful make up. Our skin is the palest in Winter because we get very little exposure to the sun in colder climates, so I use a brighter lipstick and blush in Winter, it really makes a big difference! Gives your face a little boost against all that white that surrounds us.

An important mental tip is to always focus on the fact that your body is warmer than the outside. And find a warm spot inside to take your outfit photos... most definitely!!

Easy DIY // Pearl Collar ★

I have been very inspired by Valentine lately and my imagination was really enticed by this pretty collar, so I decided to try and DIY a similar one and let me just say: I am in love with the result! It's really easy and inexpensive to do too. You just need a few different colors and sizes of pearls or beads and a thread and needle. I made a pattern inspired from Valentine's pretty blouse, but the possibilities are endless really and I can't wait to try other ideas! I love how it looks against the jean top of this dress, very 90's, wouldn't you say?

It's the little details that make the biggest difference and this little detail is the cutest!

Lately I have been feeling an itch to shop! On December 1st I promised myself I wouldn't shop until February 1st and now that it's just around he corner, I'm getting excited! I love making little goals like that, makes simple things seem magical! These are some of the items that are making my heart palpitate right now: pretty huh? I like shopping online the best and like to make lists of items I love, that I plan on purchasing or wish to thrift something similar to. Keeping it organized helps building a closet that works in the long run. And fantasy shopping is SO much fun! My Look // À la Bardot ♥

Day one of life after shooting the movie and I feel like a new women! I wanted to start the year by getting out of my comfort zone and trying new shapes and hair styles. This look was inspired by my very favorite icon, Brigitte Bardot. I tried her messy choucroute hair style and a loose dress with tight high socks for a naïvely up front effect. I adore this dress, it's as comfortable as lounge wear and the whole look makes me feel like the wek-end is lingering on. After completing such a big step of our movie making project and now living in a new space (tour post to come I promise!), I feel like a new person and it's pretty exciting! 2012 is amazing so far and I'm ready to take things by the horn, February watch out!

Life Lately // Last Days on Set ♥

The last leg of our movie shoot was taking place in the country North of Montreal. For 8 days, we were staying at my father's farm with no internet but a snow mobile and mini put game to keep us entertained! We had a reduced team for this part of the shoot and so some days I had to play sound girl on top of being assistant director, clap girl and script girl (and craft department). It was busy but very organic in a way, we were shooting most days with only Alexander, our lead actor and finished the shoot with Mark Krupa, who played his father, at a fancy hotel in the suburbs. The shoot was the absolute best time of my life but it was so hectic! It totally confirmed that I am a workaholic and that I thrive when pushed to the limit. I'm glad I get a few days off in our new place now and I already look forward to the next time my cast and crew will be reunited, hopefully for my birthday in April and then at our world premiere (in Venise, Toronto or..?). I love them so much, they have a special place in my heart forever ♥

My Look // Pretty Winter Basics ★

Hello everyone! Well, we've done it, the shoot is officially wrapped! It's bittersweet really, it feels so liberating to have all the images shot after two years of writing and pre production but also so sad that we won't see our movie family everyday, I grew so attached to them!

Everything went so so well on set, it was the most amazing experience ever! I didn't expect I would miss dressing up as much as I did but I was happy to have a few solid basics in my wardrobe that made my everyday on set wear a little more fun. This coat has to be my best purchase ever in outerwear, the shape is so pretty yet it's really practical and sturdy. But I have to tell you the show stealer of basics are these Tretorn boots, I have had them for 4 years now and they are amazing! My feet are always dry and warm (even when shooting outside at -27 celsius) and they are good for all seasons really (wore them here in the Summer). One of my crew member bought the same after having cold and wet feet too often on set. They are the best!

I have a least on more movie post coming up but I'll be taking a few days off and finally will get back to my regular blogging schedule next Monday! I have great posts planned for February about following your dreams and making our life pretty everyday, can't wait to be back in full action!

Her Look // Ruby Slipper Journeys ★

Hellos readers of Virginie's Cinema, one of my very favourite blogs! I'm Emily from Ruby Slipper Journeys, and Virginie originally asked me to do a post inspired by cinema. Finally, I had a thought: "I'll do an outfit inspired by that movie Russian Doll, in which Nicole Kidman plays a mail-order bride, which I haven't seen in years!" So far, so good, except it turned out after I had meticulously planned all of this that the movie is not called Russian Doll at all, but Birthday Girl. So the inspiration is a bit tenuous, to say the least, but bear with me.

In the movie, which I think is a strangely charming and certainly underrated black comedy, Nicole Kidman's character, Nadia, arrives from Russia as the mail-order bride to timid English bank teller John. I'll just say that neither Nadia nor John turn out to be quite who they seem and the characters both break and play with the stereotypes of their respective personas. Great performances and an oddly sweet script make this a movie that I always think of fondly, but apparently can't remember the name of. Nonetheless, I think the Russian doll imagery works: Kidman's character is essentially revealed layer by layer, and there is of course the divide between how John imagines a Russian woman to be and the reality he confronts. Rather like my stereotypical-with-a-twist look (my boyfriend was kind enough to say I looked like a Kosovan refugee). I was also inspired by a recent exhibition on the Russian avant-garde that I saw (this one) and by these photos. Anyway, long story short, there are also Russian Dolls as part of the pattern on this top! ; )

My Look // Indie Movie Producer ★

You guys! There are only two days left to the shoot, I honestly cannot believe it! I want to thank all of you SO much for the love and encouragement you have been sending my way, every single comment, e-mail and tweet makes my heart sing and keeps me going in this crazy adventure! After remixing 20 items for the pass month and a half, I'm really excited to soon be reconnecting with my full closet. I'm quite happy I had included this sweater and fab skirt in the remix, I wore them in so many ways, they are great basic pieces in my closet and offer tons of options. I think ear muffs are my favorite winter accessory too, aren't they so cute and cozy looking?

We don't have internet on location this week and I have to run off and use the McDonald Wi-Fi every chance I get, so I'll keep this post short as Ramiro and Alex (our lead character) are looking at me type this and waiting for me to go watch dailies...

Life Lately // On Set Memories ★

A few last glimpses of the Québec part of the shoot. It was the absolute best time of my life, spending 24 hours a day 7 days a week with my cast and crew was the most beautiful and gratifying experience I have ever had! We are now finishing the shoot in the countryside, where there is no Internet (I'm currently at McDonalds using their Wi-Fi as my cast and crew is still sleeping). Although I don't yet want to think that soon the shoot will be over because it makes me way too sad, I have to admit I look forward to getting back to my beauty and blogging routine, I miss you guys!

As the end of the shoot approaches we are starting to daydream about which festival we will be travelling to for the premiere and I've been fantasy shopping for the many dresses I will need for the festival circuit (I'm swooning over this one SO much). I'm so glad that even though the shoot ends next Tuesday, our adventure is far from over!

My Look // New Space ★

This year is off to with a BANG! As if making a movie wasn't keeping us busy enough, we finally found the perfect space for us to live in! I fell in love with the wall of windows and having an amazing 1800's church as our neighbour, but really knew it was home when Ramiro showed me the walk in closet and said: "You can have it all, it will be Virginie World". This boy knows how to sweet talk me.

Moving in the middle of a movie shoot is totally crazy but we felt like we had to do it before the movie was over, since it will mark such a huge step in our lives. Ever since Ramiro and I met 5 years ago, our goal has been to make an amazing feature film. We had to make short films, travel to festivals, learn a ton about script writing and find how to balance life and love to get to this point and we could not be happier to be here! I love how moving gives you the feeling of a new start and I can't wait to get settled in once we are done shooting the movie, I feel so inspired by this space already! But first, we are off to Montreal for the final part of the shoot, wish us luck!

2012, watch out, we are coming for you!

Being on set is kind of like being at camp or being on vacation: you get out of your routine and your comfort zone, you lack sleep but are energize on happiness, you never know what tomorrow will bring, you meet the most extraordinary people and make memories that will last forever! This shoot has been such a great human and creative experience, it's one of the greatest trip of my life for sure. We have all grown so dear to each other and we are truly one little movie family. My Look // Day Off ★

This week I had an impromptu day off from movie making when Ramiro got sick and we had to hold production for a day. I have been totally unable to wear skirts on set because half the time I am transporting equipement or sitting on the floor and have to wear sturdy pants. I was excited to have a day off, do my hair, put a little make up on and wear my favorite skirt. It made me feel like me again and yet it was such a simple outfit too. That day one of my cast member made dinner for us to give me a little break, so it must have been a lucky outfit! Sweet gestures like cooking me a meal really mean so much to me, it's the little daily things that create our happiness! Thanks Junior!

We will be on set all week-end and then will drive down to Montreal on Monday, where the rest of the movie shoot will take place. We have 10 days left on set, I'm excited to change location and get on a new vibe going! It's been nothing but the greatest of blessings so far...

Award Season Red Carpet Looks ♥

Hi everyone! I’m Christine from Fash n Chips. Virginie asked me to write a guest post for her blog and of course I’m happy to do this for her! Now since Awards Season is about to kick off and Virginie and I (and I assume her readers as well!) are both very much into film ánd fashion I figured it would be nice to come up with a Red Carpet Wishes post for her blog.

The Golden Globes and SAG Awards will both take place in January, before the new Spring 2012 Couture collections are presented and before most of the Fall 2012 fashion weeks have started, so my wishes are all from the latest available designer collections and with just the Golden Globes and SAG Awards in mind. When the new collections have been presented I’ll possibly come up with an Oscars Red Carpet Wishes post later in February on my own blog. But for now, here are my wishes..

Kate Winslet is nominated for 2 Golden Globes and a SAG Award and if this is not a reason for an eye-catching gown I don’t know what is. Kate likes her gowns simple and form-fitting and I’d love to see her in this shiny L’Wren Scott gown from the Spring 2012 collection. The black Anne Valérie Hash Couture dress has Golden Globes and SAG Awards nominee Tilda Swinton’s name all over it and the green Giorgio Armani dress I’m sure would look outstanding on Evan Rachel Wood. Meryl Streep is also a Best Actress nominee at both the Golden Globes and SAG Awards and seeing as she likes to wear long-sleeved dresses I think this shiny green Andrew Gn number could be perfect for her (perhaps with a slightly less deep v-neck). Clare Danes always seems to go for classic, simple dresses and although I do feel she could pull off something more dramatic, I think the classic designs suit her as well. And so for her I picked this beautiful mustard yellow Burberry Prorsum dress..

Rooney Mara, Best Actress nominee at the Golden Globes, is a bit of a newcomer on the red carpet and has made some very interesting outfit choices lately, so I’m very excited to see what she’ll come up with this Awards Season. I’d love to see her in Alexander McQueen and I think this nude embellished Resort 2012 gown would really suit her pale skin tone. Emma Stone is not nominated herself, but her film “The Help” is and I’m sure that because of this she will show up at one of the events at least. She’s quickly become one of my favourite celebrities on the red carpet and I have yet to dislike any of her red carpet looks. She would look simply angelic in the pale blue Elie Saab Couture dress I’ve picked out for her. Michelle Williams is nominated for a Golden Globe as well as a SAG Award and I can’t think of any style of dress to suit her better than this Audrey Hepburn-ish Monique Lhuillier dress from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection. Like Rooney Mara, Jessica Chastain is also quite new on the red carpet and so far I’ve absolutely adored her red carpet choices. I think she’s not afraid to stand out a bit and she definitely would in a mermaid gown like the Zac Posen one I chose for her from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection. The warm colours of this dress would look divine with her red hair as well. And finally, for Charlize Theron (a Golden Globes nominee for her role in “Young Adult”) I picked out this stunning Atelier Versace gown.

Life Lately // Movie Making on Location ★

After spending 3 days with a cast and crew of 8 in a 12x12 room last week, it was really nice to take the shoot to a pretty and airy location. The first day we were shooting night with 12 extras and omg did our actors (Alexander Weiner, Cara Reynolds, Jesse Camacho and Richard Zeman) ever kill it. The second day we shot during day time taking advantage of the beauty of the building we had chosen. Being on set has so amazingly busy (our set is our home and 10 people have breakfast, lunch and supper here on top of shooting long long scenes) that I've had no time to do my hair or wear a dress, so being on location was the perfect occasion to style it up a bit. I've been posting about the movie in black and white because it's being shot in black and white as well. The filmed images are coming out SO good, it's surpassing my expectations by a lot. Sometimes I think about how good the movie is going to be and I want to cry. And then I remember to be humble and get a grip, he he!

Hello Virginie's Cinema readers! My name is Holly, and I blog over at HollyDolly. I was so excited when Virginie asked me to visit you today while she is busy working on her film! My Look // Below Zero ★

Happy Monday everyone! I'm so excited that the first week of shooting is done and week two is now starting! It's going SO well so far, this is literally the best experience of my life. My cast and crew are so amazing, I'm hopelessly in love with them. I can't wait until I can show you guys, now more than ever I know this movie is going to be amazing! Dressing for long days on set is a bit of a challenge, and although my look is not my main focus, I still want to put some thought into it, really makes me feel like myself in the middle of the craziness. I find that the trick when you have to put together a really functional laid back outfit is to pay extra attention to details, like a little fur collar, pattern socks and a funky belt (this one is my husband's and yes, he drew his thumb on it).

I have some more behind the scenes pictures from the movie coming up this week and some awesome guests posts from my favorite bloggers. Most of my blogging is done at 3 in the morning after 14 hours days on set theses days but I'm always so happy to have some time to share our adventure with you!

Life Lately // First Days On Set ★

Being on set is the most hectic and amazing place to be. It's my favorite part of movie making but it's SO busy! No time to take pictures, except for continuity, and to keep a few souvenirs of this shoot, which is the absolute best time or our lives. Our cast and crew are amazing, I'm kind of in love with them all! I feel so blessed for the the choices I made and the ones life made for me, shooting Clyde Nelson could not be a better experience so far and everyday is a new adventure!

My Look // Script Girl ★

Happy New Year everyone, may it be a magical one for all of us! I spent the last day of the year finalizing the movie set and organizing our shooting script, but made time to attend a little party with friends to welcome the new year (that has me SO excited!). I wore the dress Ramiro offered me for Christmas (he's the sweetness bomb!) and went for a casual look because my closet it all boxed up and I'm remixing only a few items for the time of the shoot... which starts today! Our actors arrived yesterday and it is so amazing to see our dreams come true!

I wanted to thank you guys SO much for all the encouraging words about my project, your comments, tweets and e-mails mean the world to me! I'm so glad to have your support. A few asked me what will happen with the blog during the shooting period. Well, I have great outfits posts prepared and will be sharing a few movie suggestions too as usual. But the real treat is that I have invited a few of my favorite bloggers to prepare a post for you while I'm shooting the movie. These ladies are so amazing and stylish, January is going to be a fabulous month on the blog!

A Year In Review ★

I started the year with the resolution of thinking outside the box and quit my job as Art Director of the Québec city filmmaker's coop to follow my dreams! I started the You're The Boss Apple Sauce series on the blog to share tips I learned along the way on being a freelancer and small business owner.

Ramiro and I won our biggest prize so far with our short film Raymond May Have Rabies. Yee haw! We also walked the red carpet together once again, though Ramiro refused to dress up (or shave).

I traveled to Chicoutimi to attend a short film festival for the second year in a row.

I started thrift shopping and it became my favorite kind of shopping (with on-line shopping of course!). I also opened a little vintage boutique, my first foray into e-commerce.

I produced and directed 12 new roof top videos with musicians, bringing the total to 24! We also launched our blog, where you can see all the videos and on set pictures!

I took a romantic little beach vacation to Maine with Ramiro and it rained the whole entire time (but we had so much fun!).

I made new friends and got to meet some amazing fellow bloggers like Sarah and Gaëlle!

I became a vegetarian and started sharing recipes on the blog!

I made a few videos around my city, including this one for my friend Elisabeth's engagement.

And worked my bootie off to produce Ramiro's first feature film, which we start shooting in 4 days! 2011 was also the year my latest Super-8MM movie production came out, now in festivals across the word!

These are a few highlights that made the past year a happy and productive one! 2011 was the year to put my plan in motion, 2012 will be the year to see it come true and take things to the next level! You can also visit my 2010 Year in Review to see how it all began.

Looking back on the blessings in our lives is a great way to feel full of happiness and get inspired for the year to come, may it be a fabulous one for all of us!

My Look // Winter Wonderland ★

Hello everyone! Aren't we all enjoying the Holidays SO much? This is the most magical time of the year! It's a winter wonderland here and I have been living in stretchy skirts, wool sweaters, layered socks and tuques lately. Seems to be the perfect recipe to keep warm and be completely comfortable. After spending some quality time with Ramiro away from the internet I feel so full of energy and ready to work on the last details before we start shooting the movie ( 5 days to go, I can't believe it's so close!!).

I'll be finishing the year on the blog with my 2012 goals list and my favorite outfits of 2011. I can't believe the year is ending so soon, this time of year always makes me feel so nostalgic yet full of joy and hope for the future. Makes me feel so thankful for the all the little things that built our happiness in 2011!

Life Lately // A New Tradition ★

Last year, Ramiro and I created a new tradition by playing outside all afternoon on Christmas day. We snowshoed up a storm and rode the snow mobile over the corn fields at my father's maple farm. We had so much fun, we decided to make it a family tradition to do an outdoor's activity on Christmas day. This year, we were spending Christmas in coastal Baie Saint-Paul, so on Christmas day we went exploring the snowy beaches. It's hard to believe the last time we were there we were running around in our bathing suits! It was -20 degrees celsius and felt like we were on a beautiful glacier, it was so breathtaking. We had the best time, just being together and marvelling at the world's beauty. It made our Christmas even more magical and created memories we will not soon forget. This is a tradition I look forward to carrying on for a long time to come!

My Look // Holiday Outfit ★

Here is the second look from the day of the Holiday party! What do you think: was Ramiro right to inspire me to change outfits? I had kind of packed with my eyes closed, I brought only two pairs of tights and one sweater so I had to do with what I had. I liked this outfit a lot, it felt pretty yet comfortable for a long night of PR and partying. Ramiro helped me with my picture, which means he took 5 and said "here you go". I LOVE this boy but nonetheless: thank god for my tripod and remote!!

The dress I'm wearing, as well as the heart ring and the red tights, are from my favorite store ModCloth, who is currently having a crazy 25% off all sale items plus free shipping if you live in the US event. Merry Christmas to us!

Yesterday I went to the food bank to donate the Christmas basket I put together with your help! Thank you SO much to everyone that shopped my closet for charity, I raised 50 dollars that I used to buy food and toys for a family in need. I bought basic essentials for them but also a few sugary treats like hot chocolate and cherry candies to hopefully make their Christmas a little sweeter. Thank you so much for helping me give back, 'tis the season for counting the blessings in our lives and helping out those in need!

Holiday Recipe // Hot Chocolate On A Stick ★

I love cooking and baking for the Holidays and was looking for a simple and sweet recipe to make and bring with us on our little Christmas trip and as usual my friend Billie was a source of inspiration! My Look // Movie Making ★

In our movie, there is a personal growth group called Take the Power Keep the Power that we had to design promotional items for (posters, books covers, pins, t-shirts...). It was really cool working with our art team on this and today I was dropping off the final proofs at the printer, I can't wait to see it all!

We had sweaters made as well and since we got it yesterday I haven't wanted to take it off! I'm going to be wearing it on set a lot and wanted to get a few outfit ideas flowing so I decide to style it today in a way that was comfortable enough to run all the errands, sit and budget for hours and move boxes around. The result was cool and practical, so I say this one was a winner!

This movie is coming together so well, I am crazy excited to start shooting in 12 days! Yee haw!

My Look // In The Country ♥

Happy Monday everyone! Aren't we all so excited it's the last week before Christmas? I hope your Holiday season has been magical so far! As you know from yesterday's post I spent the week-end in the country where my family and I were hosting a party in honour of Ramiro, his amazing talent and his dedication to following his dreams! It was a night we will not soon forget, thank you so much to everyone that came to show us the love, we feel so blessed!

This is the outfit I had first planned on wearing to the party but Ramiro wasn't crazy about it so I ended up changing at night into something more festive. I definitely don't recommend always taking our man's advice on clothes or dressing to please them at all times, but since it was all about him that day I let him have it his way (I'll be sharing the other outfit later this week, then you can see which is cuter!).

I look at these pictures and it's crazy to me that there was no snow in the country while I woke up to another snow storm taking over my city this morning. White Christmas!

Life Lately // A Holiday Week-End ★

This week-end was spent at my father's farm with family and dear friends, filled with love, Holiday cheer, music and food! I can't lie, I'm starting this week a little tired, but extremely excited that Ramiro and I are taking a special Christmas trip next week-end and that soon we are starting to shoot our movie!

My Look // Snow Storm ★

In the past few weeks, Winter had really set in. The air is SO cold and everything is white and muffled. It makes everything slippery and wets your hair, but I love it. It feels like Christmas is just around the corner, the most magical time of the year! This look is really simple but kind of looks the way a snow storm feels.

We are off to Montreal for the week-end to do a special photo shoot with one of our actors and host a party in the honour of Ramiro's fabulousness as a filmmaker. So much fun!

Last Night's Movie ♥

My absolute most favorite Holiday movie (except from Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas) is Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shot. Though the movie' subject is not Holiday specific, I adore the way Kubrick brought the Christmas atmosphere to life (hello fairy lights bonanza!) and the luxuriance of decors and costumes. It's also my absolute favorite "relationship" movie, I love the way the theme of temptation is treated and how the everyday couple is portrayed. An absolute most see I say, I could have shared pictures of the whole movie, it's just SO pretty and enticing.

Stanley Kubrick was such a genius and important artist in the History of filmmaking and The Stanley Kubrick Archives book is a fabulous gift for the cinephile on your list (Ramiro and I devoured it on our honeymoon trip!).

My Look // Québec City Girl ★

Oh my friends what a challenge it has been lately to take outfit pictures! Never mind the snow, the freezing temperature, the lack of sun and the crazy winds, I've actually broken the 35MM lens I usually use (NOOOOOOOO!) and now have lost my tripod head in a sea of boxes. But I am still getting dressed and trying to share the (very Canadian these days) inspiration nonetheless, nothing gets this jolly girl down, woot woot!

Here we have my reindeer sweater again! I'm trying to get as much wear out of it as I can before the Holiday season is over. It's one of my favorite sweaters because it's so soft and versatile and I have to say I bought it at Forever 21 and it makes all the F21 haters wrong because no matter how much I wash it and put it in the dryer it's still perfect, same length, no fuzz with solid seams. When our clothes don't stay so nice I say: don't blame the store, blame the fabrics we choose! Polyester is not your friend, no matter where you buy it or how much you pay for it. Go for natural fabrics (yay cotton!).

I think the day I moved to Québec city I started wearing these grey wool socks with the red line. In Montreal I would have never worn them, but it's so darn cold here and these are the best socks to keep the feet toasty. It was like an intuition I had when I moved here and I have since discovered all the girls here wear them, at the swap last week out of 15 girls at least 8 were wearing these socks (there's a picture to prove it on my Twitter!).

Life Lately // The Movie Making Adventure ★

And so the adventure continues! In the past days we finished decorating the set and then proceeded to test our lighting. We put a frosting on our windows (which we should have done a long time ago, gives such a cool and intimate effect!) and DIYed a box for our lights to control the outpour. So much fun! Making movies with Ramiro is the best thing ever. We've also been testing our new 85MM lens and we are in love!

We also put two entire closets into boxes and now I'm going to have to remix whatever I have left for the next three months. Scary! I'm excited about this Coeur de loup top I got at the swap though (pictured above), it should give me a lot if remixing options.

Three weeks til we shoot, yee haw!
